Solutions based on ecosystems restoration are key to mitigate the climate crisis. We restore Ocean habitats, lungs and carbon sinks of our Planet.
What are Nature-based Solutions?
Nature-based Solutions are actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits (IUCN).
At tēnaka, we develop Nature-based Solutions to preserve the Ocean, lungs and carbon sinks of our planet. We restore coral reefs since 2018, mangroves since 2020 – and seagrass starting in 2021.
Restoring coral reefs
Coral reefs are the world’s marine biodiversity hotspots. Restoring them revives underwater biodiversity, secures jobs for coastal communities and revives key habitats for carbon circulation.
We restore coral reefs alongside corporate partners throughout the Coral Triangle area, in Southeast Asia. In fact, reef restoration is a key solution for the climate crisis, but also for Corporate Responsibility.
Restoring mangrove forests
Mangroves are the biggest source of Blue Carbon: on an equal area, they captures five times more carbon than a terrestrial forest. Furthermore, they are nursing grounds for marine biodiversity and protect coastal villages from storms and erosion.
We are restoring our very first hectare of mangrove forest in Malaysian Borneo. We are increasing the restored surface through Corporate Responsibility and Carbon Offsetting Programs.
